Finding Tile for a Bathroom Remodel with a Masculine Look

Posted by Kate Spencer on Oct 3rd 2024

Wondering how to find the right tile to achieve a bathroom remodel with a masculine look? Look no further!

Kate Spencer addressed this very topic on Suncoast View, sharing samples and installation images, a locally produced hour-long Talk Show airing on ABC 7 WWSB in the Sarasota, Florida area. The program’s format is inspired by the ABC Network’s popular, long-running talk show, “The View”.

Kate's Recommendations for a Bathroom Remodel with a Masculine Look

What made this episode even more interesting is that it specifically addressed real-life needs - specifically those of Joey Panek who's in the middle of his own bathroom remodel and wanted Kate to provide ideas and guidance.

Kate kicked off the session with Joey's sources of inspiration, explored cabinetry, wall tile, and floor tile. She ended with examples of classic bathroom designs with a masculine look and feel.

Joey's Bathroom Remodel Sources of Inspiration

For his bathroom remodel, Joey was looking for a classic but masculine look that would work well with his 1958 home. Nothing too modern. Rather, something that would work with the earth and neutral-toned terrazzo floors found throughout the house.

He had in mind a white, black and dark grey color scheme: Carrara marble tile for the shower walls, dark grey stone mosaics for the shower floor, wood plank tile for the bathroom floors and a dark vanity as you see in the collage above.

Cabinets for a Bathroom Remodel

Tile Outlets of America has a custom cabinet program and also sells multiple lines of vanities to suit all design preferences. Here are a few of those cabinets and vanities in dark and grey wood tones that could work based on Joey’s bathroom inspiration. These would work well with the white, black and dark gray color scheme.

Below, you see the Adornus Cambridge collection in grey with a marble countertop. The lines are classic and clean.

This look works in dark wood tones, too. We also carry a vanity from the Amazonia collection which compares to Joey’s inspiration piece, giving you dark wood vanity options to complete the space.

The vanity above features two sinks.

For another look, you might choose a single sink option with rich dark tones that work well with a wood plank floor.

If you have a small bathroom space, you might prefer a narrower single sink option. We carry those.

What to Install on the Shower Walls?

Next, we focused on what Joey wanted on his shower walls. He loves stone and particularly the look of Carrara marble in porcelain tile for easy maintenance. If you share that love, check out the options available in the large porcelain panel collection!

Here are several examples of how to make that look happen.

Below, you see rectangular porcelain tile on the walls with a large niche done in mosaics with Carrara marble. Notice the pebble mosaics for the shower floor.

This next image shows you how a larger size porcelain tile looks combined with light colored wood plank tile on the floors and dark cabinets.

Both of the examples above show you how tile all the way to the ceiling looks. This is another of Joey's requirements for his bathroom remodel.

Notice in the image below that the shower floor is done in stone pebble mosaics.

Below, you see shower walls done in a grey polished stone/marble look in a porcelain 12x36 tile called Nature.

What About the Shower Floors?

Although Joey had in mind dark grey stone mosaics for the shower floor, Kate felt it important to present him with other creative shower floor ideas.

For example, pebbles are a natural for a masculine look as you see in the next image. Then you can pull the pebbles into the niche to tie the look together.

One of Joey's inspirations included a black-white diamond/octagon mosaic. Here's how that look comes together with dark cabinets, marble countertops and white fixtures.

The look below features a marble pattern combined with wood plank tile.

Finally, here's a wood plank tile shower floor that extends all the way into the bathroom. Notice the linear drain for a clean look that accentuates the plank look.

As you can see, you have many options for your shower floors. Each one will give you different end results, but all are acceptable for shower floors.

Be Inspired for Your Bathroom Remodel with These Masculine Yet Classic Bathroom Designs

Most important for this particular bathroom remodel and ensuring that the end result looks classic as well as masculine.

Here are some final design picks that capture what Joey wants to achieve.

Below you see clean lines, the polished Carrara marble look done in hexagons on the walls and shower floor, with wood plank tile for the rest of the bathroom.

This image combines white marble subway wall tile with a dark grey linear mosaic on the back shower wall and a 2x2 grey stone mosaic for the shower floor. Notice the black/white mosaic on the entire bathroom floor.

The bathroom vanity needs to be a darker color.

The bathroom below is definitely a masculine bathroom.

It features wood plank tiles – Bosco Cenere 8x24 - on the floors.

The shower walls are done in a dark linen bamboo tile with a dark grey herringbone shower floor. Aren't those mirrored vanities and how they reflect the shower elements wonderful?

This next bathroom inspiration has Carrara ceramic tiles on the walls, and wood plank flooring that continues into the shower with a linear drain.

The classic bathroom below was featured in A&E Flip Wars: Buying Blind.

They used the Bosque Taupe wood plank tile on the floor, Statuary Carrara White Polished 3x6 marble on the shower walls with a white marble hexagon centerpiece. The shower floor is installed with a Marmol Bianco mosaic.

This last image is too contemporary for Joey's 1958 home, however, the simplicity is classic!

It features Neve Satin Shutters 12x36 wall tiles and a dark grey wood plank on the floor.
