Glass, Stone and Metal Decorative Mosaics

Glass, stone and metal decorative mosaics make a tile installation design stand out. They add visual interest, an element of bling and whimsy, not to mention that they offer you the opportunity to create a wall or backsplash design completely unique to you.

As Alena Capra mentions in Alena Capra, Interior Designer, Talks Tile and Design,

"I love that tile can be mixed and matched in so many different ways. I can take glass and stone and porcelain and create something different each time even with a tight budget. I love using tile in unconventional areas. Tile goes beyond the kitchen and bath. It's different and it protects the wall."

In this article, I introduce you to several categories of decorative mosaics available at Tile Outlets of America. What I like so much about these products is that they mix together glass, stone as well as metal to create a particularly interesting decorative effect that each one's shape highlights beautifully.

Glass, Stone and Metal Decorative Mosaics

These decorative mosaics are available in multiple shapes. They are available at all three TileOutlets of America as well as online.

1. Glass and Stone Mosaics

The Nacar series is available in two different colors. These mosaics are a blend of glass and stone and have a nice shimmering effect in the glass.

SKU: 151963 - Nacar Stone Brick Mosaic 12x12

Here you see it installed as a backsplash.

Here is the second color in warmer tones: SKU: 151649 - Nacar Arena Brick Glass Stone Mos 12x12

The Nacar Arena Brick mosaic has a Mother of Pearl effect. This is a nice shine to the mosaic and pulls out the glass and stone. This product is suitable as a wall application only to avoid ruining the effect on the mosaic. It is not suitable for a shower.

If you are looking for a traditional 5/8 mosaics with some crackle glass then you should explore the Carrara/Blue/White Crackle 5/8 Mosaic in a 12x12 sheet. This has glass and marble pieces to create this design.

2. Glass and Stone Picket Mosaic

Glass, stone and pickets look fabulous in a mosaic. When you see the term pickets, it refers to long narrow shapes like a fence post. You may find them in alternating widths and lengths.

Here are a few glass/stone picket designs that could work for your space:

SKU: 152761 - Sky Textured Picket Glass Mos 13x13

The Sky Textured Picket Glass mosaic also includes metal pieces. The glass is solid and wavy to create a depth texture. Along with the stone pieces have texture and smooth finish. So many possibilities for this design. It is only suitable for a wall application.

SKU: 152781 - White Picket Carrara Glass Mos 13x13

The White Picket Carrara glass mosaic is similar to the above, but in the white tones. The marble pieces are all smooth. The glass is clear, shimmering and wavy looks to create character and depth to the mosaic.

This mosaic has longer picket pieces. These are marble and glass pieces mixed to create the look. The colors are very muted, but have a slight blue hue to the glass.

3. Glass and Metal Mosaics

Let's add some glamour to the mix by combining glass with metal! 

The metal whether shiny or matte brings a shine to the mosaic. Here are some unique designs using color and metals to make it fun. The pieces interlock to create a seamless look. These pieces should be used for walls and not wet areas.

The Metal Star mosaics come in two colors – Lapis and Opalesque.

Here are some fun 2x4 Glass & Metal mosaics. The designs make them cloud-like which gives them their names. These pieces have the cloud like designs and you will see the 3D geometric design in the glass pieces with some shimmer. The metal pieces are what separate the glass pieces.

SKU: 152641 - White Cloud 2x4 Glass & Metal Mos 12x12

The White Cloud mosaic is in softer white/beige tones. The cloud pieces are not so pronounced, but you can see the shimmery 3D glass pieces.

4. Mirror Blend Mosaics

Mirror mosaics are fun to play with to expand on a space. You can use them in different sizes to create a bling to the space. Here are a few mosaics to explore for your next project.

SKU: 152835 - Antique Morocan Mirror&Marble Mos 11x11

This is a glass and marble mosaic. You will need to come see this in person to appreciate the beauty of the look. 

Here is an installation of this mosaic in a retail store dressing room. This would make any dressing room stand out.

5. Stone and Metal Mosaics

Finally we share with you some stone and metal mosaics.

SKU: 306895 - Golden Thassos Linear Marble Mos 9x22

This Golden Thassos linear mosaic is marble with gold metal pieces. The diagonal direction of the metal creates a really artistic piece. 

We loved it so much we used it in our inspiration area in Fort Myers. Please come in and check it out in person. The Gold pieces compliment the gold fixtures for the door pulls. The blend of two cabinet colors also bring this mosaic to life.
