Shop Self-Leveling Underlayment & Floor Prep

Flat floors make good tile jobs — especially with large-format tile, where a 1/8-inch dip becomes visible lippage. This collection covers floor prep from full pours to feather edges: SikaLevel-325 and TEC 567 self-leveling underlayments, the primers they require, TEC 330 feather-edge skim coat for minor corrections, and Quikrete deck mud for traditional sloped beds.

Getting a Flat, Tile-Ready Floor

  • Self-leveling underlayment — pours flat over low spots and rough slabs; walkable in hours.
  • Primer first — SLU bonds only to a properly primed substrate; never skip it.
  • Feather-edge skim coat — fixes small dips, ridges, and transitions without a full pour.
  • Deck mud — the traditional choice for sloped shower pans and thick beds.

Why Buy Floor Prep from Tile Outlets of America

We'll help you estimate coverage and pick the primer/leveler combination that matches your substrate — all at outlet prices from our Florida warehouses. With three Florida Flooring Supercenters in Fort Myers, Sarasota, and Tampa, you can see products in person and get advice from people who install tile every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How flat does my floor need to be for tile?
Industry standard is 1/4" in 10 feet for tile under 15 inches, and a tighter 1/8" in 10 feet for large-format tile. If your floor is outside that, flatten it before tiling — leveling after the fact isn't possible.
Do I really need primer before self-leveling underlayment?
Yes, always. Primer controls absorption and bonds the leveler to the substrate. Skipping it is the number-one cause of SLU failures — pinholes, poor bond, and cracking.
Self-leveler or skim coat — which do I need?
For dips and overall flatness across a room, pour self-leveling underlayment. For isolated low spots, ridges, or feathering a transition, a skim-coat patch like TEC 330 is faster and cheaper.
What is deck mud used for?
Traditional dry-pack mortar for building sloped beds — mainly shower pans — and thick floor fills. It's shaped by hand, unlike self-levelers which find their own level.
