What size tile spacers should I use?
Match the joint your grout and tile call for: 1/16"–1/8" is typical for rectified porcelain, 3/16"–1/4" for handmade-look and quarry tile. Check the tile manufacturer's minimum joint — going tighter voids many specs.
Do I really need a tile leveling system?
For tile 12 inches and up — especially planks — yes. Leveling clips and wedges pull neighboring tiles flush while the mortar cures, eliminating lippage you'd otherwise feel underfoot and see in raking light.
Are leveling clips reusable?
The clips/straps snap off and are single-use; the wedges and caps (Raimondi RLS, Spin Doctor) are reusable job after job. Buy clips in bulk, wedges once.
Which screws go with which backer board?
Use the board's own fastener: Durock screws for cement board, GoBoard fasteners for wood or metal studs, and Kerdi-Board screws with washers for foam board. They're corrosion-resistant and sized for the board thickness.
