The KERDI shower tray is the pre-sloped foam shower base that replaces a hand-packed mortar bed, sized 48x60" with a center drain location. It's pitched to the drain at the factory, giving you a dead-on slope every time instead of floating a pan by hand.
Set the tray in thin-set over the subfloor, bond KERDI membrane over the top and seams, then tile directly on the surface. The larger 48x60" footprint and center drain suit a roomy alcove or walk-in shower with plumbing at the middle of the pan.
